September: In addition to keyboarding once per week, students in this grade will be learning a variety of computer skills including their Google accounts, Common Sense Media, and much more.
September is also our time to do our fall NWEA tests with students in grades 2-4. The computer lab will resume classes as soon as testing is complete.
October: Now that testing is done, we have begun our formal keyboarding class as well as regular computer classes. All students come into the computer lab twice per week. Once for keyboarding and once for regular class.
Keyboarding: Students will continue practicing touch typing as they become aware of proper body posture, hand positioning, and will begin to gain confidence as they learn where the keys are located. We use an internet based keyboarding program called typing.com. If students want to show you at home, they can go to https://www.typing.com/
Computer Class: This year we begin in our Google Apps for Education accounts by navigating around the different apps they will be learning and applying to their classroom work. We have reviewed proper emails, as well as completed a Common Sense Media lesson in Google Draw, where students become aware of what it takes to be a Good Digital Citizen!
